Locjam log - Andrés
Personal log on what the #Locjam has meant for me:
I felt curious about the LocJam since I first heard of its existence. Still, I was so busy I opted out, but people and situations act in mysterious ways… Planets aligned so well that my weekend shift fell right on the 4th of July weekend, so I have received no tasks so far (Saturday night). I met all of my teammates when I was already working in videogames and they were still University students or quite green at work, but I could feel their burning passion and kept in touch with them until this day. We decided to create a group and join the jam, but since most of them had no experience with real translation projects and all that, I used my contacts and created a real-life project simulation for all of us. For me? I learned about project management. Them? They learned about teamwork, checking mistakes, CAT tools and we all had a great time. So, back to the real-life project, I asked a very good friend of mine to host our project on his memoQ server (credits to Pablo and LAP Translations Services!) and I acted as the PM. I decided deadlines, workloads, and even gave them a very small style guide the day after we started, when they already had a lot of translated segments, just for more “real-lifeness” (ha-ha!). We laughed, we had breakdowns, we couldn’t find that perfect word at some point, but you know what? That’s the best part of this, and I would repeat the experience as many times as possible. I hope you all enjoyed the LocJam as much as we did.
Have a great day.
